Fried Halloumi Cheese Sticks

Fried Halloumi Cheese is a must-try. I no longer appreciate using alternative flours to mimic the texture of mozzarella sticks, or anything else that consists of bread for that matter. After some time on a low-carb diet, you get used to not thinking about bread! When I cook this I think about Dane Cook’s skit, “Just the cheese”. I might say that to myself while pulling the Halloumi Cheese package out of the fridge, mouth watering.

This appetizer satisfies the salty & cheesy cravings. If you shop for it, you can find some that are made with bacon bits, garlic, or other seasonings. It’s high in fat, and low in carbohydrates (zero carb, actually) — BUT high in calories. Don’t over do these, you’ll regret it later! The first time I discovered the deliciousness of Fried Halloumi Cheese, I ate about 5 sticks (out of excitement and reassurance that this was keto-friendly)… let’s just say my stomach felt like I ate a brick for an hour. Luckily, after a couple cheese sticks you’re satisfied.

As for a dipping sauce, I prefer ranch dressing over marinara. For those that prefer a marinara flavor, I recommend the staple low-carb marina sauce: Rao’s Marinara. It can be found at most regular grocers and is a low carb option that passes the flavor and consistency tests with flying colors! I use it for my keto pizza’s too! Enjoy!

Fried Halloumi Cheese Sticks

  • 8 ounces Halloumi Cheese (frying cheese)

  1. Heat small-medium frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Add butter and let simmer.
  3. Slice cheese into 1" thick slices to make "cheese sticks".
  4. Place sticks onto pan and flip every 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. Remove from pan and let cool for 3 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle on Parmesan Cheese, serve with dipping sauce.
